FRANKLIN CO, Va. – A Franklin County man is dead after a two-vehicle crash on Sunday afternoon.
The crash happened at 3:47 p.m. at the intersection of Route 670 and Route 834 in Franklin County when a 2012 Subaru Legacy, driving south on Route 834, failed to yield the right of way to a 2003 Ford F-150 at the intersection of Route 670, according to state police.
Forty-three-year-old Paul Anthony Stewart, of Wirtz, the driver of the Ford, was not wearing his seat belt and died from his injures after being taken to a nearby hospital. His passenger, Elizabeth Ellen Braxton, 45, was also not wearing her seat belt; however, she was not injured.
Police say Stewart was going east on Route 670 through the intersection, when he was hit by the Subaru, ran off the right side of the road and overturned.
Amanda Jean Kellam, 35, of Rocky Mount, who was driving the Subaru, was not wearing her seat belt and had to be taken to the hospital. The three kids in the Subaru, who were all wearing their seat belts, were also taken to a nearby hospital.
The State Police Crash Reconstruction Team responded to assist with the investigation.
The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
