Danville becomes one of Virginia's newest Main Street cities
DANVILLE (WSLS10) - Danville is now officially a Main Street city.
Virginia's Secretary of Commerce Maurice Jones made the announcement in the River City on Monday morning.
Prior to today, only 25 other localities in the Commonwealth held this state designation.
This will allow the city to have access to more grants and funding opportunities to continue work to revitalize the city's River District in hopes of continuing to get more businesses to locate there and more people to both live in and visit the district.
"[This designation] will help you in your journey to continue to revitalize the River District that you are well underway in doing now," Jones remarked as he addressed the two dozen or so people who had gathered for the announcement.
Wytheville, Lexington, and Glouster Courthouse in Glouster County were also designated as Main Street cities on Monday.
