ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - People in Roanoke have a chance to hear from city council candidates this week.

Along with the mayor's seat, there are several city council positions up for grabs.

The Citizens Convention, a community group, is hosting a forum on Thursday and organizers said they want community members to be engaged in the political process and have opportunities to submit questions.

Organizers said they hope to create an ongoing dialogue with city officials and candidates who need to be responsive to Roanokers' needs.

"We feel that everyone has a voice and a responsibility to use that voice and therefore they have the right to ask the council members what they think the future of Roanoke looks like," said Jim Hammerstrom, a Citizens Convention member.

The candidate forum will take place at The Park on Salem Avenue at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 31.
