WYTHEVILLE (WSLS 10) - Wytheville will now get help from across Virginia to revitalize its downtown.

Governor Terry McAuliffe announced Monday that Wytheville will be designated as a Virginia Main Street program community, meaning it will now have access to more grant money and will receive $120,000 worth of expertise and services to boost downtown life.

Six businesses opened in downtown Wytheville last year, and several more have committed to opening by the summer.

The hope is that the Main Street Program will boost that number even more by the end of 2016.

Local business owner and Downtown Wytheville, Inc. member Teresa King said, "Not only as a business owner, but as a member of the community who has been born and raised in Wytheville, we just want to see our town be what it possibly could be."

McAuliffe also designated Danville and Lexington into the Virginia Main Street program as well.
