Woman found dead in James River; man rescued
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Authorities are investigating after a woman was found dead in the James River in Richmond.
Richmond police spokesman Gene Lepley said in a news release that rescue crews responded to a call on Tuesday morning about a woman's body in the river below the Manchester Bridge.
Construction workers near the scene told investigators that they saw a man and woman who were wading in the water get swept over the dam near the bridge. Lepley says the workers saw the woman, identified as 36-year-old Amy Sue Briscoe, disappear in the hydraulic current at the base of the dam, while the man was kicked out of it.
Lepley says the man was rescued about 100 yards upstream from where Briscoe's body was found. He is being treated for hypothermia.
