Hundreds lace up their sneakers for National Walking Day at Elmwood Park
ROANOKE (WSLS10) - Hundreds of walkers laced up their sneakers Wednesday morning to participate in the 10th Annual National Walking Day. The walk kicked off with a brief program at Elmwood Park.
The American Heart Association said research shows that an hour of regular exercise can add about two hours to your life expectancy. Walking also has the lowest dropout rate of all exercise regiments.
"We encourage folks to exercise with a pal," said Elizabeth Vail, with the American Heart Association. "If you enjoy exercising with somebody and have a date to meet somebody for regular form of exercise, people will be more likely to continue participating in walking."
