PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY (WSLS10) - People with intellectual disabilities have another place to turn to in Southside.

The Mount Hermon Intermediate Care Facility is now open on Franklin Turnpike in Pittsylvania County.

The new facility will take in five people from the training center in Lynchburg, which houses 204 people with intellectual disabilities.

The facility opened to help transition people out of the training center after the state mandated it and four others across the commonwealth to close by 2020.

Sara Craddock, with Danville-Pittsylvania Community Service, said the new facility will give patients the opportunity to come back to the community.

Craddock continued, "Their families live here locally, and it will give them the opportunity to be integrated into the community that they have been away from for so long."

The five people who will live at the new facility will all be from Danville or Pittsylvania County.
