Possible Plea Agreement in Works for Former Nelson Co. Investigator

NELSON COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) -A plea agreement could be in the works for former Nelson County investigator Billy Mays who was indicted for election fraud.

Mays is well known for leading the investigation into the disappearance of Alexis Murphy in 2013.

A grand jury indicted Mays back in November for felony election fraud and a misdemeanor for willful neglect of election law duties.

The charges stem from Mays campaign for Nelson County sheriff in 2015.

The office for the judge in the case confirms a hearing has been set for April 22 ahead of the already scheduled trial on May 31.

The judge is waiting on paperwork from Mays' defense attorney to confirm for sure if he's going to plea out.
