Pittsylvania County schools considering drug testing student athletes
PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY (WSLS10) - Students athletes at Pittsylvania County High Schools could be subjected to random drug testing by the school district in the near future.
Superintendent Dr. Mark Jones said he and his staff are currently researching the costs and legal issues of the testing and if there is actually a need for drug testing.
He said the idea came up at the school board's retreat in February.
"We'll look at our suspension data, our discipline data; see where we are, see how it compares to state data," Jones explained.
He will present an update to the school board at the board's meeting in May.
