ROANOKE COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Students across the Roanoke Valley showcased their technology skills. The Technology Advisory Showcase for Roanoke County Public Schools took place on Wednesday.

The event highlights some of the innovative tech programs offered by the school system. Organizers said the event helps to show how technology is helping to transform education.

One group of students presented their version of a "laser cane" which can be used to help Parkinson's patients walk. School leaders said innovative programs like these are critical to preparing students for the future.

"It's just neat to see children doing problem solving like this" said Gregory Killough, Roanoke County Superintendent. "They are wonderful young adults that will be great in adding to our economy and our future."

The showcase included projects from engineering and mass communication students as well as other programs.
