Roanoke County Sheriff's Office to offer firearm safety courses

ROANOKE COUNTY (WSLS 10) - The Roanoke County Sheriff's Office will hold Citizen Firearm Safety Courses.

The classes will cover safety, storage, proper weapon manipulations and malfunctions as well as issues and responsibilities that come with owning a gun.

Participants are asked to bring 10 canned goods or non-perishable items to be donated to local charities. 18 people will be able to take part in each course.

The courses are set for Saturday, May 14 and Saturday June 11.  Both sessions will begin at 8:00 a.m. The classes will be held at the Sheriff's Office at 401 East Main St. in Salem.

More classes will be offered in the future.
