Round Town: kites and a marathon

(WSLS 10) - If you're looking to shop for your kids and save some money, head to Lynchburg this weekend for Kids Kraze. You'll find everything from clothing to toys and furniture with proceeds benefitting those in need. Shopping kicks off on Saturday at Candlers Station Shopping Center.

Kites will fill the sky in Roanoke County Saturday at the Blue Ridge Kite Festival. You'll be able to fly a kite or sit on a blanket looking at the kite covered sky. The festival includes arts and crafts as well as food vendors. The festival takes place at Green Hill Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Head to Sweet Briar College Saturday for the 1 in 5 5K. Students hope to use the event to raise awareness about sexual assaults on college campuses. Proceeds from the event will go to the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with the race beginning at 9 a.m.

The annual Sounds of the Mountains Festival returns to Camp Bethel this weekend. The event features professional storytellers and music. The event kicks off Friday at 7 p.m. and runs through the day on Saturday. Tickets are $35 for the weekend.

Take part in America's toughest road marathon, or cheer on those brave enough to run the hills in Saturday's Blue Ridge Marathon. In addition to the full marathon, there's also a half marathon and 10K. After the race, there will be entertainment at Elmwood Park.

The Down by Downtown Music Festival returns to the Star City this weekend. It's a three day music festival taking place at several venues in downtown Roanoke including Elmwood Park on Friday and Saturday nights. More than 50 acts will perform.
