Man arrested for trying to steal money from Christiansburg day care

CHRISTIANSBURG (WSLS 10) - Police arrested a man they say impersonated a day care employee through email and tried to get $18,000 from the company's account.

On Thursday, the Christiansburg Police Department received a complaint from the day care Grace a Child about a possible scam.

An accounts employee with the company received e-mails from another member of the organization asking for her to deposit $18,000 in a bank account. It was determined that the e-mails were fraudulent.

Upon further investigation, police figured out name on the account and the name of the bank where alleged scammer was asking for the money to be withdrawn.

With the help from the Charleston Police Department in West Virginia, David Alan Shaver was arrested while attempting to pick up the money at a bank in that locality.

The 51-year-old Charleston man is currently being held in South Central Regional Jail in Charleston with no bond while awaiting extradition.

He faces one felony charge of attempt to obtain money by false pretenses.
