WRIC Staff – CAROLINE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — When Alvin Boone Clark and his grandson Jaylen didn't come back from fishing in the back yard pond, family members knew something was wrong.

Family members say Clark, to them known as Uncle Boone, loved spending time with kids and teaching them how to fish was a family tradition.

"That's what we would do, is go fishing," said nephew Edward Clarke.

Looking back, Edward Clarke said some of his fondest memories with his Uncle Boone were the days he spent hunting and fishing.

"We just hunted all the time together," said Clarke. "I just loved to be with him whenever he was around. He made me laugh all the time."

Family says Boone loved spending time with children.

"He was wonderful with kids anything he asked they did it," said his great-niece Barbara Clarke. "He never told him no. He took them anywhere they wanted to go. He just loved kids."

Many in the family lived right down the street from each other. They said it's the little things they'll miss.

"Coming down and having coffee with the family every morning, that's what I remember most about my Uncle Boone, being down here drinking coffee," said niece Mary Clarke.

The family is now coming together to mourn a family man they all loved.

"Showing each other support and being here for each other, that's what it's all about," said nephew James Jeter. "That's the type of family we have. No matter what happens we're going to come together."

Also remembering their little cousin, a 4-year-old who was all smiles.

"All the time, no matter when you see him he was always smiling laughing," said Jeter.
