Wythe County leaders work to tackle littering problem

WYTHE COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Wythe County leaders take an active approach to stop illegal dumping.

County spokesperson Jeremy Farley  said people often leave trash in grassy areas where Interstates 81 and 77 meet.

Leaders say the trash in the area impacts tourism in the county and they want to make sure the area it is clean.

"At the end of the day, a Wythe County that's presentable to the public, is a Wythe County we can all leave for our children, and so littering just can't be tolerated," said Farley.

If caught littering, you could face up to a year in jail and a possible $2,000 fine.
