Radford student dies after being hit by car near VCU


ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Police continue to investigate the death of a Radford University student who was struck and killed near VCU early Saturday morning. According to a Radford University spokesperson, Wilson Herrarte-Barahona's was a freshman at Radford University. Officials said the Student Affairs office made an announcement Saturday about the incident. School leaders said special counseling and support services will be available.

Police were called to South Belvidere Street near Cumberland Avenue at about 1 a.m. Saturday. Officers said they found an unresponsive adult male victim. According to investigators, the victim was attempting to cross South Belvidere with a group of other pedestrians.

Richmond Police officials said the driver remained at the scene.
