The death was part of a violent evening in Norfolk that also included two people being shot by police. According to Virginia State Police, an officer shot an armed man who was standing near Raynor. That 45-year-old man was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

At the same time, officers were surrounding a nearby home with an armed man inside. Officers ultimately shot the man after state police say he fired an assault-style weapon at police. The 30-year-old man was killed.
