High school senior among 2 killed in crash in Va.

MECHANICSVILLE, Va. (AP) - Authorities say two people, including a high school senior, were killed after a pickup truck ran off the road and hit a tree in Mechanicsville.

The crash occurred around 10:30 p.m. Saturday. The Hanover County Sheriff's Office says in a news release that 17-year-old Dylan Ballard and 22-year-old Elliott Hinton, both of Mechanicsville, were killed. They were passengers in the truck. The driver and another three passengers were taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

Ballard was a senior at Lee-Davis High School, and Hinton graduated from Lee-Davis. Hanover County Superintendent Michael Gill says he's "heartbroken" to learn of the deaths. He says support services will be on hand for students on Monday.
