Police release identity of man killed in downtown Roanoke, no arrest made
ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Police released the identity of the man killed in front of a popular restaurant in downtown Roanoke. The victim was identified as Kendall Lamont Wallace, age 35 of Roanoke said Crime Prevention Specialist Scott Leamon with the Roanoke City Police Department.
The shooting happened in the 100 block of Campbell Avenue in front of Benny Marconi's pizza shop at 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Leamon said when officers arrived to the scene, a large crowd was gathered around the area where they found the victim lying on the sidewalk. Police say it was obvious he had been shot. The victim was taken to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3:08 a.m.
Detectives continue to gather witness statements and analyze evidence. The suspect is described as a black male, between the ages of 25 to 30, between 5'8" to 5'10" tall, and medium build. Anyone with information can call our tipline at 540-344-8500. Callers can remain anonymous.
