The crane was rescued in Christiansburg after a group noticed the bird was not flying off when approached by people.

Sandhill cranes are rarely spotted in our region. Executive Director of the Southwest Virginia Wildlife Center Sabrina Garvin says the area isn't their natural habitat or migratory path.

The crane is currently receiving rehabilitative care at the center under supervision of licensed veterinarians.

Tests are being done to find out if the crane has any health issues, and how it may have gotten here.
