State Police identify man killed in Amherst County crash

AMHERST CO. (WSLS 10) - Virginia State Police are investigating a deadly single-vehicle crash that happened in Amherst County.

According to police, it happened early Tuesday morning at 12:15 a.m. on Route 29 less than a mile south of Route 662.

Police say a box truck was driving north on Route 29 when it ran off the left side of the road and flipped over in the southbound lanes of Route 29.

The driver, Peggy Ford ,63, of Bluffton, South Carolina, was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital for treatment. She was wearing a seat belt.

The passenger, George Bridges, 48, also of Bluffton, South Carolina, died at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Ford is charged with DUI in a fatal crash. She is being held at the Blue Ridge Regional Jail in Amherst County.
