DANVILLE (WSLS10) - Danville's Ballou Park is just about ready for the city's annual Festival in the Park.

On Thursday, inner tubes were laid out for the 200 foot water slide and work continued on the giant sand sculpture.

The theme for this year's festival is pirates.

Between 20,000 and 25,000 people are expected to show up for the three-day event, which begins on Friday.

Sand sculptor Alan Matsumoto said after last year's festival he couldn't resist coming back.

"They set the festival up nicely. I had a great time out there. The kids and families were great," Matsumoto said cheerfully. "The [sand] sculpture's going to be something about pirates. It's going to have some big things happening."

Gates open at 4 p.m. and WSLS 10's Virginia Proud Weather Tour will be there on Friday during our evening newscasts.
