ROANOKE (WSLS10)  People in the Star City celebrated Roanoke's diversity.

It's part of the annual local colors program.

Organizers said about 100 countries participated in the festival Saturday at Elmwood Park.

They said when they first started, only four countries took part in the program.

Organizers also said they are glad the community continues to participate in the event.

"It's awesome it's great to get people out of their normal path and get them interacting with people they usually don't cross paths with, we have such diversity here but if you stay in your same little circle that you always go in, you don't see it, and you don't get to appreciate it like today," Beth Lutjen, the Executive Director of Local Colors said.
