CHRISTIANSBURG (WSLS 10) - For the first time, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office has a team of people officially dedicated to answering its calls for help.

About a dozen people just formed a citizen support group for the sheriff's office. They will do everything from attend important life events for the deputies, to providing them with food and water during a crisis when taking a break is not an option.

For years, the Christiansburg Police Department's citizen support group helped the sheriff's office when it could, but when Sheriff Hank Partin took office in January, he decided it was time for his deputies to have a team solely dedicated to them.

"It's wonderful because it opens up lines of communication that we didn't have before," said Partin.

The support group is a non-profit and will rely solely on donations and grants.
