Danville Police investigating after robbery, attempted robbery

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - Danville Police are investigating after a reported robbery and attempted robbery happened early Wednesday morning.

Police say about 1:47 a.m., the clerk at the Hill Top Exxon, in the 700 block of Piney Forest Road, had locked the door to the business while he took the trash to the dumpster behind the business. Police say as he rounded the corner of the store, the clerk was approached by two black men wearing masks with guns.  They directed  the clerk to unlock the door and the alarm went off.  Both suspects took off running North (towards the Kentucky Fried Chicken).  One suspect was wearing a white hat and mask, burgundy coat, long dark colored pants and dark shoes.  The other was wearing a dark hoodie, a dark mask, dark colored shorts, black and white shoes and white socks.  The suspects were not located and the clerk was not injured.

Less than twenty minutes later about 2:00 a.m., police say a man and woman were walking North on North Main St. near the intersection of Church St. when they were approached  by two black men with guns. Investigators say the suspects  told the victims to "give them what they had".  Police say one of the suspects grabbed the woman's purse and pulled her to the ground, forcing the purse from her grasp. Police say the other suspect pointed the handgun at the male victim and robbed him of cash.  Both suspects ran off.  The suspect that stole the purse is tall, in his 20's, mustache wearing a white T-shirt and jeans.  He had a dark grey semi auto pistol.  The other suspect was tall, in his 20's wearing a camo hoodie.  The handgun that he produced appeared to be silver in color.  Neither victim required medical treatment.

Police have not said if the two incidents are related.
