ROANOKE (WSLS10)-- Today the Roanoke Valley joins runners in every state and more than 160 countries in celebrating Global Running Day.
Since 2009, the first Wednesday in June has been designated as National Running Day. For the first time ever, it's spreading worldwide this year.
So far, more than 2.4 million people have pledged to get outside and run today, a great way for kids and adults to stay healthy.
A special celebration will be happening here in the Star City-- anyone is invited to a running and walking event on the Greenway tonight.
"We definitely welcome all ages and abilities," says Monica Mannino, the training program coordinator for Fleet Feet. "Look at what the Greenways have done. Because of that activity, we want to celebrate that and how active Roanoke has become."
If you want to take part in the Roanoke event-- meet at Reserve Avenue at 6 p.m.
