LEXINGTON (WSLS 10) -  Upgrades worth $450,000 are underway at the Virginia Horse Center.

The center's CEO John Nicholson says the repairs are necessary to keep one of Rockbridge County's biggest attractions wowing crowds for another 30 years.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of visitors stop by the center for its 75 major horse shows.

The center is celebrating it's 30th anniversary.

"It's a 30 year old facility. It has served the Shenandoah Valley very well, but after 30 years, its just time to fix things that begin to show their age at 30 years," Nicholson said. "So we are doing that now and we are receiving really good feedback from people who enjoy the center. Clearly people are noticing the difference."

Each year tourism from the center brings millions of dollars into the local economy.

Nicholson said the center was able to borrow the money for renovations because of the transient tax flow the center brings in each year.
