ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - The 2nd Annual Wendy M. Bowling Memorial Golf Tournament is a charity event looking to raise money for needy animals.

Wendy Bowling, the inspiration for the event, rescued and cared for several animals in her lifetime. The fundraiser, in her honor, benefits the Roanoke Valley SPCA and Angels of Assisi.

In 2015, 10 pets from Angels of Assisi and the RVSPCA were adopted and the event raised $8,000.

"This is more adoptions than in any other single event that the Roanoke Valley SPCA has attended," said Sylvie Peterson, Director of Community Engagement, in a press release. "In addition, all adopters walked home with not only a new best friend, but a 20-pound bag of dog food and various other pet care supplies."

This year's event will be held on June 25, at the Blue Hills Golf Club in Roanoke at 1 p.m. Pet adoption is open from 10 a.m to 6 p.m.

If you would like to be a sponsor for the event, there are three levels; gold, silver and bronze. More information on sponsorship is available here.

The RVSPCA and Angels will have dogs and cats available for adoption and event organizers say all the proceeds will go to the RVSPCA and Angels of Assisi.
