PITTSYLVANIA CO. (WSLS 10) - A new animal shelter is one step closer to reality in Pittsylvania County.
Bid documents are now available for the work that would need to be done to turn the old Piedmont Chevrolet dealership on U.S. 29 into the shelter.
The documents stipulate that the showroom would have to be demolished, a 6,000 sqft. addition would have to be built, and another roughly 6,000 sqft. of existing space would have to be renovated.
The county's current animal shelter is severely overcrowded, leading to a high euthanasia rate.
Bids will be received at the county administration building at 2 p.m. on July 7.
