RADFORD (WSLS 10) - Summer in Radford now has a new taste.

For the first time, the school system is offering a summer feeding program from June until August.

Breakfast, lunch and afternoon snacks are free for all kids, even if they do not go to Radford schools.

Adults can eat too, for a small charge.

Currently, 42 percent of Radford's student body qualifies for free or reduced lunch. 19 percent of the city's population does not get enough food.

"It's definitely tough," said Radford mother Jennifer Arnold. "It's tough enough surviving as it is. This is such a big help."

The program is funded through the USDA and Department of Health.

Food will distributed Monday through Thursday at both schools and apartment complexes until August 4.
