Southside high schoolers hear from cybersecurity expert

DANVILLE (WSLS10) - Danville Community College is helping high schoolers understand the opportunities available to them within the cybersecurity industry.

Michael Price, the Cybersecurity Chief for the U.S. Defense Commissary Agency, was at DCC Thursday.

He spoke to 80 high schoolers from Danville and Pittsylvania and Halifax Counties, who are taking part in a 15 day cyber summer camp at the college.

Price says the cybersecurity industry is becoming increasingly important and the opportunities within it are rapidly expanding.

"The growth is fantastic. I know the government is spending a lot of money on cybersecurity, particularly as it pertains to infrastructure, the military, and things like that. So, it's a fantastic field," Price said.

Each district received a $62,500 grant from the Virginia Department of Education to put on the camp.

The camp wraps up next Tuesday.
