Let's do Lunch event tops last year's numbers

ROANOKE (WSLS10) - People in our area grabbed a bite to eat to help raise money for a good cause.

The annual Let's Do Lunch event took place Friday afternoon at the Kasim Shrine Temple in Roanoke.

Volunteers said last year's event raise more than $64,000.

They said this year was successful, because they sold around 100 more lunches than last year.

"The community has come together, I mean we've had so many donors, so many people who bought tickets, so many volunteers to help with this event, the LOA staff, everyone has come together to make this year our biggest success ever," Michele Daley, the Director of Nutrition Programs said.

The money goes to the Meals on Wheels program which provides lunch daily to the elderly who can not leave their homes.
