DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - Update: Attorney's for the Heritage Preservation Association say they will file a petition for a rehearing with the Virginia Supreme Court in the battle over the confederate flag.
The association filed a lawsuit against the city of Danville last August when the council voted to permit only U.S., state, and city flags to be flown on flagpoles owned by the city. A Danville Circuit Court judge dismissed HPA's lawsuit in October.
On Monday, the Supreme Court reaffirmed the judge's decision. Attorney's for Danville say they were pleased with the court's decision.
DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - The Virginia Supreme Court will not hear an appeal regarding the removal of the confederate flag.
The announcement is a blow in the fight to return the flag to the Sutherlin Mansion in Danville.
The Heritage Preservation Association and others started the lawsuit after city council adopted an ordinance that only permits certain flags to fly on city property.
The association has 14 days to file for a rehearing.
