ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Congressmen Bob Goodlatte and Morgan Griffith announced Wednesday the United States Postal Service Office of the Inspector General have started a review of the consolidation of the Roanoke Processing and Distribution Center mail processing operations into the Greensboro Processing and Distribution Center.

According to a news release, the Congressmen sent a letter to the USPS OIG requesting an audit after they received an increase in complaints about lost or delayed mail shortly after the closing of the Roanoke processing facility on May 26, 2016.  The audit will review the mail processing operations to determine whether mail is being processed in a timely manner.

Reps. Goodlatte and Griffith also requested the audit determine if a business case exists to support the consolidation, given that the USPS has cited the savings as a reason to back up the consolidations.

The USPS OIG confirms a review is underway.  A final report is expected in December.
