William Fleming 1600 relay team receives All-American honors
ROANOKE (WSLS 10 SPORTS) - William Fleming's 1600 meter relay team earns All-American honors after placing 5th at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals at North Carolina A&T over the weekend. Fleming's foursome of Trevon Mays, Tajai Jackson, Azavier Kirtley and Lazaro Camero-Ruiz ran a 3:17:28. A team from Huntington, New York won the event in 3:10:93.
"It is definitely gratifying to us that now we are beginning to put William Fleming back on the map again and our philosophy at Fleming is, with track and field, we train to be national champions, so if we fall short, we will be state champions. The kids have bought into that and they work very hard and now a lot of the kids in our program are being recruited by Division I schools, so it has been bringing national prominence back to William Fleming in track and field," said Colonels' indoor and outdoor head track and field coach Robert Vineyard.
The top six teams earn All-American status.
