Virginia State Police investigating fatal three-vehicle crash
HENRY COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Virginia State Police is investigating a three vehicle crash that left one person dead.
Police said it happened around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Commonwealth Boulevard and Virginia Avenue in Henry County.
According to Sgt. Rick Garletts, Virginia State Police, a 2001 BMW traveled at excessive speed, crossed the center line and struck two vehicles; a 2006 Ford Econline Van and a 2013 Nissan Altima.
Both cars were making a left turn onto Commonwealth Boulevard.
Police said Christopher James, 25, the driver of the BMW, was wearing a seatbelt and was transported by EMS for injuries from the crash.
His passenger, Barbara Scales, 23, was wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene.
Benjamin Wingfield, 59, the driver of the Econline, was wearing his seatbelt and was transported by EMS for injuries from the crash, according to Sgt. Garletts.
Sequoa Penn, 29, the driver of the Altima, was also wearing her seatbelt and was treated for injuries.
State Police said charges are pending.
The crash remains under investigation.
