Erica Williams case receives special judge

CHRISTIANSBURG (WSLS 10) - The process to potentially remove Montgomery County circuit court clerk Erica Williams from office is moving forward.

Retired judge William Alexander from Franklin County has been appointed to preside over the case. He is expected to schedule an initial hearing soon.

There is also an effort to appoint Floyd County commonwealth attorney Eric Branscom as special prosecutor, although that is not official at this time.

This case is the result of a petition that was submitted to circuit court to remove Williams from office, after she did not reappoint four deputy clerks.
