Conservationists spruce up the Roanoke Valley War Memorial
ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - The Roanoke Valley War Memorial is being cleaned and restored for the first time since it was built in 1982.
A special crew is busy repairing missing letters, cracks and corrosion.
City staff is watching the process so they can clean the memorial in the future.
"One thing that's really special that's happening is that the conservationists are going to work with city staff when they've completed their work to show city staff proper cleaning methods and things like that," said Susan Jennings, the city's Arts and Culture Coordinator.
The project costs $18,000 dollars in all. Roanoke's Art Commission is covering half the bill; the rest is coming from the city's general operating budget.
