Dozens of new, high-paying jobs coming to Danville

DANVILLE (WSLS 10) - The Danville City Council has approved economic development funding for two companies that will be opening in the city in the near future.

Because the final details are not yet finished, the city has not yet released the names of the companies, what kind of companies they are, or exactly what type of jobs they will create.

The city did say; however, that the two companies will create dozens of jobs that will pay between $45,000 - $60,000 a year.

The companies are also expected to invest a combined close to $20 million dollars in the city.

City leaders have been working with the companies for several months.

Danville City Manager Ken Larking said he couldn't discuss when the companies will be up and running, but he did say the jobs these two companies will create are jobs that the city feels are crucial for the future of the city.

"These are exactly the kinds of jobs that we're targeting to have in the city of Danville," Larking stressed. "They're good paying jobs. They'll provide great opportunities for people who live here now."

Larking continued, "We believe that these projects will lead to new projects down the road. we're hoping for a lot of success here in the near future."

An announcement is expected during the week of July 11 to unveil one of the companies.

The other company is expected to be unveiled in August or early September.
