Woman jailed for speeding three times on I-81 ordered to pay fine
PULASKI COUNTY (WSLS 10) - The 21-year-old Los Angeles woman who spent Fourth of July weekend in jail on multiple reckless driving charges has been ordered to pay a fine.
On Thursday morning, Kai Kitchen decided to forgo her bond hearing and pleaded not guilty to all three reckless driving charges with the stipulation that there's enough evidence to find her guilty.
The judge ordered her to pay $500 for each charge and sentenced her to 12 months in jail, with the jail sentence suspended.
Kitchen's license to drive in Virginia has been revoked for 12 months.
Kitchen's mother was in court today along with a NAACP representative.
"This doesn't have a thing to do with the color of anybody's skin. She was driving in excess of the speed limit on three different occasions within one hour," explained Jimmy Turk, Kitchen's lawyer.
Kitchen is now out of jail.
