MARTINSVILLE (WSLS 10) - The Daily Grind coffee shop in Martinsville is giving a free cup of coffee to any law enforcement officer through the end of the month.
The five police officers killed in Dallas on July 7 have now been laid to rest, but many around the nation, including in Southside, are making an extra effort to support law enforcement.
Owner Danny Heiss says he feels like hate is tearing the nation apart and he wants to try to help stop that.
"It all started with me feeling really bad and kind of grieved about the state of the nation and violence is kind of ripping us apart at our core; hate," Heiss explained. "Just thinking of the small things that we can do at our store to just benefit and encourage law enforcement. Because it's got to be hard on them, right?"
He hopes other businesses will take similar steps to show support.
