Montgomery County looks to sell former AEP land

MONTGOMERY COUNTY (WSLS 10) -  The future of a Montgomery County property is in question, as a neighborhood comes together to claim it as their own.

The county is considering selling around 12 acres off Nik Ryan Drive. It is part of a bigger effort to get rid of unused property to generate revenue.

The land connects to Nellies Cave Park in Blacksburg.

Nearby homeowners spoke at a public hearing this week. They said although the land is not technically a park, dozens of people use it for that purpose every week and do not want to see it developed.

Appalachian Power donated the property to Montgomery County in the early 2000s.
