ROANOKE COUNTY (WSLS 10) - The Roanoke County School Board changed its policy Thursday night to prohibit the board from making any decisions on the promotion of family members.

This comes just a month after former Catawba District Representative Tom McCracken resigned his seat on the board.

McCracken says the other members would not promote his wife to be the new Assistant Principal at Northside High School while he remained on the board.

Board Chair Mike Wray says the board has always followed this policy, it just wasn't officially written down.

"We do things in hopefully the best practice, but sometimes you have to implement policy to make sure that it's understood and it's spelled out," said Wray.

Earlier this week, McCracken said he would like to reclaim his seat on the board, which is now filled by Don Butzer.

McCracken has hired an attorney, but has not stated yet if he is preparing to take the issue to court.
