Calls for transparency continue following the shooting death of Kionte Spencer

ROANOKE (WSLS 10) - Members of the group "Justice for Kionte" gathered in front of the U.S. Attorney's Office in downtown Roanoke on Monday morning.

The group wants an independent investigation into the Roanoke County police officer-involved shooting death of Spencer back in February.

U.S. Attorney John Fishwick is excused from his role in the case due to a conflict of interest. First Assistant U.S. Attorney Rick Mountcastle is now handling the matter.

Rally organizers say they want to make sure their concerns are not forgotten.

"We are here today to let the new U.S. Attorney that is handling this case, that we still have not forgotten and we still will not just go away, said Rev. Alonzo Smith with the Price Memorial AME Zion Church. "We still demand transparency and an outside investigation."

Organizers say they plan to rally every Monday until their request is answered.
