Danville Fire Department reminding people to stay safe in the heat
DANVILLE (WSLS10) - As the heat settles in to many of our communities, first responders in Southside are reminding you to stay safe in the heat.
With Monday's heat index, temperatures were close to 100 degrees in Danville.
The city's assistant fire chief Steve Dishman says people need to remember to monitor the weather and themselves for signs of heat exhaustion.
"All of a sudden you have extreme weakness, you become somewhat dizzy or nauseated with that, you get into cramps," Dishman said, explaining common signs of heat exhaustion.
He also reminds you to drink plenty of fluids, take frequent breaks and to seek medical attention any time you suspect you may be suffering from heat exhaustion.
