SALEM (WSLS 10) - Police have charged a West Virginia man with indecent exposure and taking indecent liberties with a child after an incident in Salem earlier this month.

On July 7, officers responded to the 1800 block of West Main Street in reference to an indecent exposure complaint. The suspect had left the scene by the time officers arrived, but the female victim and her child, both Salem residents, were able to provide the responding officers with a description of the man.

Through the course of the investigation, detectives identified Robert Curtis Shumate as a suspect.

On July 15, with the assistance of the Tazewell County Sheriff's Office and Virginia State Police, the 40-year-old Princeton, W.Va. resident was found and arrested.

Shumate is currently being held in the Western Virginia Regional Jail without bond.
