Former Roanoke County School Board member McCraken will not run this fall

ROANOKE COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Tom McCracken, a former member on the Roanoke County School Board, does not plan to run for his former seat in an upcoming special election.

McCracken released this statement regarding his decision.

After much prayer I have decided not to run for the Catawba District School Board seat this coming special election in November.  While I do believe that a positive impact was made during my short tenure, and while I appreciate the support given by so many, I think it best to step aside at this point for the sake of unity.  I am looking forward to the next phase of my life as I focus on growing the church, continuing in a PhD program and promoting my new book.  May our Lord bless our Valley as we honor Him in all that we say and do."

He recently decided to drop his lawsuit against the school district because he didn't want to distract students. He said they should be focusing on their studies and not the lawsuit.
