Pittsylvania County kids get visit from Attorney General Herring

PITTSYLVANIA COUNTY (WSLS 10) - Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring is trying to help kids in Pittsylvania County build a stronger relationship with law enforcement.

He visited kids at the county's Virginia Rules Camp in Sutherlin on Tuesday.

The camp is a statewide week-long program that offers kids an opportunity to do fun activities with law enforcement officers in their community.

Herring said he believes these camp do help strengthen the relationship between law enforcement and their communities.

"When kids go back to school and people start talking about 'what did you do for summer vacation or over the summer,' a lot of kids will talk about their experience here," he explained. "It's just a great way to spread the word about the good work that law enforcement do."

After speaking with the kids, Herring participated in a game of tag.

He will meet with law enforcement from across Southside at the Regional Center on Wednesday to discuss numerous aspects of law enforcement including how to overcome inherent biases.
