USA's Nico Hernandez defeats Cappai, moves on

NBC Olympics.com – In the final light flyweight match of the day, Nico Hernandez defeated Italy's Manuel Cappai by unanimous decision. He joins three other Team USA boxers that have moved on to the next round of preliminary matches.
A notable moment in the match occurred early on in the first round when Hernandez flipped Cappai over his head in a vertical suplex position.
Earlier in the day, teammate Carlos Balderas also moved on to the round of 16 preliminary set of matches for . Fellow boxers Shakur Stevenson and reigning Olympic champion Claressa Shields have already earned a bye into later preliminaries and quarterfinals respectively, due to their high seeding.
In the other evening light fly match-ups, Namibia's Mathias Hamunyela defeated Azebaijan's Rufat Huseynov, and Mexico's Joselito Velazquez Altamirano defeated Argentina's Leandro Blanc.
