The result sets up a clash of unbeaten North American medal contenders when Canada squares off against fellow Group B squad, the United States, on Friday.

USA women's head coach Geno Auriemma is certainly familiar with Canada's biggest offensive threat, UConn Huskies junior Kia Nurse, whom he coaches in college.

With 14 points, Nurse led Canada in scoring for the second consecutive game. Tamara Tatham was just as effective in the victory over Senegal, with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Astou Traore did all she could for Senegal, leading all scorers with 24 points. Senegal's second leading scorer was Oumoul Thiam with 12, the only other Senegalese player in double figures.

Canada held a double-digit lead for most of the game, though Senegal mounted a late run to close the gap to seven points midway through the fourth quarter. But even then, Canada seemed in control, as they did all game.

The United States handled business against Serbia, 110-84. They have scored over 100 points in every game they have played thus far.

Senegal will play Spain on Friday, but seem to be a near-lock to be eliminated before bracket play.
